Scientists from the University of Nairobi have attained 18 positions in the coveted top 50 rankings nationally in the 2022 rankings by the Alper- Dodger (AD) scientific index. A total of 538,497 scientists globally were ranked in the 2022 AD scientific Index.

The AD Scientific Index 2022 is a rating and analysis system based on individual scientists' scientific performance and added value in terms of scientific productivity. The AD scientific Index is based on the principle of including only the meritorious scientists. Furthermore, the AD  Scientific Index 2022 assigns a score to institutions based on the scientific features of their linked scientists. 

UoN took home the highest number of positions in the top 50 nationally with the population council which had six scientists in the category coming in second.

Prof. Elizabeth Ngugi who was the top scientist from UoN made it to position 2 out of the 1,887 scientists ranked in the country and position 259 in the region. Prof. Ngugi was recognized for her research on Epidemiology and Public Health. Some of her famous articles include the effects of a mobile phone short message service on antiretroviral treatment adherence in Kenya and the cofactors in male-female sexual transmission of human immunodeficiency type 1 FA.
